Bright, far-reaching light for video

Hi, I have been using Switztronix TORCH Bolt on-camera video lights for years, I currently have two and recently one stopped turning on. Made a call to the manufacturer (Switztronix), but their site has been down and calls go directly to disconnect.

I believe they went out of business?

Anyway, I need a high-powered, dimmable, battery operated on-camera light for wedding grand entrances and toasts. It should project far, lets say 40 feet. Color balance option preferred.

My budget is around $300 but willing to spend more for quality.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Stefan

Find a way to increase your budget and get a Litepanels Sola ENG. It's the perfect light for what you need.

If you haven't seen it already, read Paul Anderegg's excellent post at http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/photon-m...ew-550usd.html

With regard to the Comer light, it has a flip-down/up "magnifier". What has been found is one can move it out just a milimeter or two from it's fully seated position and it increases the light focus even more.

Anyway, his two lights are within your budget.

40 feet is a really long throw for anything other than a Fresnel. BTW, the SolaENG comes with barndoors. I don't know why B&H shows it naked.

If I remember the Sola ENG is powered by 12V DC or 14.4 VDC. So if you have 7,2 volt batteries, then no cigar. I had the same problem looking for a far reaching spot at weddings. I could,t find any and so built my own custom LED with 3 color temp, fed by Sony L series NPF 7.2 V batteries and a narrow 12 degree angle of projection, dimming, and using TIR Carlco optics and 4 Cree XHP 50 leds. It flat out projects to over 400 ft. without a sweat. At 100 ft it is idling at 25% power draw of only 15 watts.

As an update to my post, I recently discovered that Switronix is now a new company named CORE SWX.

Yeah, new URL is Rechargeable Battery and Charger Solution, Suppliers ? Switronix

FYI, in the initial post you were mistyping the name. It's Switronix, there is no "z" in the middle of it.

I find it very odd that they don't have a re-direct from their old site to the new one. I'd think that paying $10/yr for the old URL would be more than worth it to have old customers find the new site / company name.
