Two quick questions regarding smoky lights + Kino Flo
 

Right guys,

This morning the company I work for received the Diva Lite 400 plus the 150 watt 3 point Dedo lighting kit. Very happy indeed!

When my colleague and I put in the new bulbs for the Dedos and turned them on they started producing fine wifts of smoke that went away after 20 or so seconds, and now the bulbs are fine. As I have never put new bulbs into a light is this normal? We were somewhat unsure for about half an hour, thinking "surely that's not normal", but as the bulbs now work perfectly we just want to know for sure.

Another thing, with the Diva came an offset bracket (which my boss ordered in addition to the Kino Flo) which you can all see here (http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/gimme..._diva-400-kit1. What exactly do you use this for? Does it simply allow you to manouevre the Diva with more freedom or is it something else?

Also, anyone in the UK know the best places to get filters and black wrap at a competitive price. Or do I simply give Arri or Lee Lighting a call and get the best I can get?

Hey there-

Did you touch the bulbs with your bare hands? When relamping higher wattage lighting instruments, the oil from your skin can cause the bulb to melt. In this case, the oil may have burnt off the glass. Just a thought...

Late Reply, but no problem on the fine white smoke you saw. Just residue or something like that from the manufacturing process being burnt off. I had the same thing happen when I used my dedo's the first time as well. I asked the store I ordered them from and they let me know it was perfectly normal. Like I said, this is a late reply to your question, but maybe it will help someone else as well. Congrats on your dedo's!

I've seen faint white smoke from several new instruments besides Dedolights as well. It should go away in 30 seconds or so after they reach operating temperature and not come back.
