Studio Lighting

I need to learn how to do studio lighting.

All of my experience is with interview lighting out in the field. I am about to take over the lighting for a studio and don't even know where to start. I have no experience working with a light grid or lighting sets.

What is a good resource for me to learn these skills? Anything from books to tapes to seminars to websites would be appreciated!

I can recomend two good books to you. 1. The grip book by Sabrina and Micheal Uva. 2. Set lighting technician's handbook by Harry C. Box. These are books covering the technical aspects of lighting. You could also take a look at the book Uva's Rigging Guide for Studio and Location.

The books that Bryan recommended are a great place to start.

One thing to keep in mind is that the technical aspects of lighting will take you no time to learn; creating a well-lit shot/scene --"well" meaning aesthetically suitable for the character/scene/story-- takes experimenting and using your imagination.

Also, don't forget to watch films --especially ones shot in B&W-- and TV shows without audio; having no sound helps you concentrate more on the lighting.

Some good books on lighting etc. and other threads were pointed
out in this thread

I've also looked up Bryan's books on Amazon for you:

Uva's Basic Grip Book
Set Lighting Technician's Handbook
