Another Hair Light Question

I used the 3 point lighting techniques learned here for a shoot and was very happy with the results. This was for a single person at a lectern. I used my Arri 150 as a hair light.

My next shoot will involve a presenter on a stage and he will be walking around while facing the audience. Do you use a hairlight for this situation? I am thinking that my Arri on a boom stand would work. Any tips on how to adapt 3 point lighting to a presenter that likes to pace would be appreciated.

A slightly stronger light higher above and back slightly will draw a broader cone of light for interacting with your subject. If they are presenting to an audience, you may want to consder how to hide the light(s) from them, if not, just make sure it's out of frame as you follow (or hidden from camera view).

3 point is a technique, though not always a rule. The hair light is usually used to separate the subject's head from the background. This is often necessary with dark backgrounds and dark hair. With blonde hair, it's not necessary on dark bg's, or dark hair on light bg's. If someone's pacing a lot, you could also use color or lightness contrast to separate them from the bg, and not shine light in the audience's eyes.

It may be more interesting to introduce uplights or sidelights on the curtain to create visual interest, which will further separate the speaker.

Put an electric in a harness and hang him from the truss. Put a handle on the Inky and you're good to go. Make sure he's sober and doesn't sweat too much.
