VariZoom (SWIT) Led On Camera Light
 

Not sure if the shootout of the new oncamera LED lights has happened yet but today I just received my VariZoom S2010P on camera LED light. I couldn't find much info about it before buying so I'd be happy to answer any questions of those considering it. My first video shoot is scheduled for this Saturday night.

Does anyone have experience with these or opinions? I'm considering purchasing one for my Z1 for weddings.

I'd be interested to hear how much "glare" you get from these lights! I actually have an incredably powerful 49x LED torch that I picked up for about GBP£8 from HK, that I'm planning on adapting as a camera light. The main problem I have is that the LEDs are incredably bright, and glaring to the eyes. Nothing a little bit of diffusion won't fix, but I did wonder whether pro LED lights have this same problem, or whether they are inherently less "glaring".

i just got a zylight and so far i'm pretty impressed. i was looking at lightpanels, but the zylight is dimmable and you can select any color temp. presets for 3200 and 5600 and then two more presets for user preference. pretty slick. its not QUITE as strong as i thought it would be, but its plenty for my needs. not cheap at nearly $1000 for the kit, but its solid.

I'm a little confused.

the Varizoom LED light (S-2010) can be run off of a separate camera battery, but is there some kind of setup where the light can run off of the battery that's powering the camera - both using the same battery?

I've read about a "power tap" connector, but don't know exactly how it works.

I found my answer. The "Tap" plugs into more professional higher-end cameras and uses the camera's battery to power the light.

but for my camera (dvx100), I'll need to use my spare camera battery to power the light.

the new varizoom model S-2010 led light has a battery connection "port" that clamps onto the camera to keep the spare battery secure.

I've been using this new S-2000 series LED on-cam light from Varizoom for several months now, and have grown to appreciate and depend on it. As I've stated here at FresHDV:
