Camera Technique DVD's
 

I didn't want to hijack the Filmmaking DVD's thread, but this one is similar. Does anyone have opinions on the following two packages -

I would like to get one rather than both, unless there is little or no overlap. Any comments on these products are welcome, and thanks!

I think the Advanced Broadcast Camera Techniques videos are essential, particularly volume 1. In order to get the full benefit of the video you have to have a camcorder handy; when it says stop the tape and practice, you have to stop the tape and practice. If you just sit there and watch the videos passively you won't get the full benefit. It will really "click" if you physically do it.

Thanks Justin, and that's exactly the info I'm looking for - something to try immediately with my Sony vx cams. I guess I'm equally interested in camera techniques AND understanding all the camera's manual settings and how and when to use them.

I've ordered the Advanced Broadcast Technique DVD and I'll post comparisons/reviews when I'm done with all the DVDs.

Yeah, I missed the eBay posting. Darn it. The bid starts at $29 and there seems to be a new sale for every day. Did anyone get a better price than $65 ?

For starters, you're buying two DVD-Rs, not DVD-ROMs, of what is probably the VHS from a distributable tape. I'm not into DVD-Rs because they supposedly don't last as long as DVD-ROM, but at least this company used printable discs. On the plus side, DVD-Rs are very easy to back-up.
To my ears, the announcer to be a bit too sales-like, and I'm surprised by the amateur audio and backfocus.

Getting past that, I liked the robust survery of camera angles/positions and all of the demonstrations. They are excellent as they clearly showed how the shots were made, both from the camera's view and as well as a side-view of the operators. On the downside, you are then armed with all of those techniques that make used car sales commercial look busy. Overall, these videos are worth every dollar to me as they will help me get out of my current shooting rut.
