Sony LANC Controller DIY

G'day all,

New member here from Australia. I have the Sony PDX10P which I want to switch the record on/off via the LANC terminal. I dont need zoom, focus, etc or any other functions which you get with the Bogen Manfrotto, etc brand LANC controllers, plus I dont really want to spend the huge dollars on a proper LANC controller!

Here is a link for a LANC remote for the DVX100. This one has zoom control but I dont really need that.

Will this remote work on the PDX10P? If not does anyone know just how to switch record on/off via the Sony LANC?

Thanks to all who reply....

*Ahem* Sorry James but the DVX does not have LANC. The article you've linked to is for a controller that will work only on Panasonic DVX and DVC cameras through their auxiliary remote jacks. Not the same thing as LANC at all, and therefore it will not work on a Sony.

my mistake.. thanks for pointing that out...

any other suggestions?

Do a search on the forums. There is a very inexpensive controller out there that doesn't do much more than start stop and single speed zoom.

G'day James,

This is the link to the Sony RM-VD1 which will control power on/off and record start/stop. It has a clunky two step zoom control, but for $34.95, whaddaya expect?

since I need this control really soon & i'm pretty sure no one stocks them here in Australia, any idea on how to make one?

i'm sure i've read on the web on how to make one but cant seem to find the webpage anymore.....

I wouldn't be so certain that you cannot find the controller in AU, James. I would contact a few local photo stores, since the controller also is meant for use with still cameras.

Failing that, a Google search should turn up some DIY sites.

Any of the major video suppliers down there should have a couple of LANC controller options in stock for you to choose from.
