Varizoom vs Canon Wired Remotes

Can somebody tell me what additional functions Varizoom controllers offer over the Canon wired remote for XL-1(S)? I guess I should add I'll be using the controller with Canon's new manual servo 16x.
Thanks

Howdy from Texas,

There are two primary differences between VariZoom and Canon controllers.

First, the VariZoom is more durable because the housing is made of aluminum instead of plastic like the Canon. Remember, you get what you pay for!

Second, the VariZoom allows you to ramp up or down on the zoom speed. With your thumb holding the zoom rocker down, you can adjust the speed control dial with your index finger. In this manner you can start slow, go fast and then end slow, with a slight tweak of the dial with your finger. Takes practice but it's easy when you know how. You can't do this with the Canon.

Hope this helps,
