It shoots a standard definition 16.9 image progressive scan. Clean and smooth.

DVCAM in 16.9 has the same horizontal pixel count as 4.3, in PAL it 720. When your bring this into an NLE you set it as "Anamorphic" which stretches the pixels from square to rectangular.

That's exactly how it's supposed to work. Each shot you make in the camera becomes a separate shot in FCP. Surely that's a much easier workflow when editing than spooling through one continuous clip...
