Re: Audio for a Kiddies Stage Play

When I think of a mic on a stand for young kids in a play, I think of a Peanuts TV special with Linus walking up to the mic to say something heartfelt and profound.

That's less likely to happen...

Re: Traveling Lens

It depends. What do you want to create? What's your style? Will you shoot at night? Handheld? Tripod?

The 17-55 is great for "human scale" video with actors, but might not be ideal for traveling....

Re: C100 Mark II & Sachtler FSB 4 : Jittery Footage

Before sending it to Canon, I recommend some more scientific tests. If you have access to a turntable or other smooth moving thing (maybe even the turntable in a microwave, if the glass is clear...

Re: Killer (and practical) Teleconference Audio

That's a sweet, little interface! And I see that it has a headphone output, so it could do double duty - USB into the PC and analog into a mobile phone. I've got a juicedlink preamp for analog, but...

Re: Great (yet practical) lighting for video conferences

Jim - I don't necessarily want a green screen as you need really good equipment to do it well. The fun thing would be using it on the road. Let's say you normally do the video conferences in front of...

Re: Great (yet practical) lighting for video conferences

My use case is as simple as can be - a professional attending an online meeting from a home office. So there's no crew, there's only one person, and the aspect ratio is 16:9.

The distance from the...

Re: Killer (and practical) Teleconference Audio

I forgot to mention the possibility of a large diameter condenser mic. You can fly it just above and in front of the forehead and keep it just out of the field of view. LDC mics are thick and heavy,...

Great (yet practical) lighting for video conferences

When it comes to video conferencing, one can open their laptop in a dark room and point it at yourself backlit by the noon day sun. Or you can set up a fully staffed news room. What about something...

Killer (and practical) Teleconference Audio

In my job, I do a lot of meeting by phone and video conference. I'm wondering if there is a *great* solution that leverages equipment that can also be useful for video production.

Because phone...

Re: Audio for a Kiddies Stage Play

My wife's church has the Bartlett stage mic, which is similar to the Crown.

Great solution. It's rugged, out of the sight line, well-positioned for small people who look down, and you can crank...

Re: Is C-Log coming to the 5D4?

There was one big exception: The "big" 5D2 firmware update.

Previously, we only had "auto" mode for video. We would cover the lens, then point it at the light, and hit the AE Lock button at just...

Re: Is C-Log coming to the 5D4?

That's right. And that's killer. You need to do 4K to get top quality. It's windowed, which is one drawback, and you can't record it externally, so you can't get the overlays, redundancy, etc.

Re: Sanken CS3e vs. Røde NTG-3

From what I've read, there is a lot of variability from unit to unit with the Oktavas, potentially due to unlicensed, lookalike stock.

Re: Is C-Log coming to the 5D4?

One correction on the 1080p output: It's 2nd generation awful 1080p. ;)

The first generation did line skipping and had horrible aliasing. The second generation (launched on the 5D3) does simple,...

Is C-Log coming to the 5D4?

That's what I hear. Possibly by NAB.

This could make the 5D4 a good b-cam for inter-cutting with Cinema EOS cams.

4K (yeah, windowed, but without anti-aliasing or softness issues; not far from...

Re: Locking your equipment up

Somehow, I get the feeling that the username and password on Mark Watson's router are NOT "admin" and "admin". ;)

Re: Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

Great photo!

With WD40, duct (or gaffers) tape, and square stock aluminum, one can do almost anything. Add black foil, and one is invincible. ;)

Re: The Key to Eraserhead

I published it yesterday without a hitch. Woo hoo!

And yes, I'll be at NAB for the duration. I can hardly wait!

Re: Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

That docking video was perfect. It gives me a good idea of what I want to achieve with my do-it-yourself design.

FWIW, square aluminum tubing is great for these types of projects. You can pick it...

Re: 85mm f/1.4 IS lens - real or fake?

I had forgotten about the Canon 85/1.2L II update. Focus is faster, but it's still focus by wire.

Yeah, an 85/1.4L IS would likely crowd into the same price range. But it might be a different use...

The Key to Eraserhead

Okay, it's not a film. It's a graphic novel. And it's about a film. Well, probably the greatest cult film ever.

Sunday, March 19th, 2017 is Eraserhead's 40th anniversary. That's the publication...

Re: Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

Great tip on the bicycle clamp solution.

One thing I'm confused on: A key function of the docking solution is for balancing, but Charles recommended not to support it by the handle.

In my...

Re: Sanken CS3e vs. Røde NTG-3

A couple years ago, Sanken launched their CS2-R, which is a two-capsule, mid-length rear-rejection shotgun. Unfortunately, it's not placed well regarding price. For instance, it's a special order at...

Re: Sanken CS3e vs. Røde NTG-3

The place where the Sanken CS3e earns its money is on the tradeshow floor or other places where there is a constant murmur. Some time ago I did a comparison between the CS3e and the Sennheiser 416 at...

Re: How much to charge for a video

It's funny how really confident, professional people can get flustered once the camera rolls. They think that because they talk to people all day that it will be easy. Ha!

I had a boss who was...
