Re: Which follow focus system should would be best for me in this case?

I can't comment on that gear specifically since I've not used it. The local rental house has a BarTech that I use when needed.

I have use a few setups on indie sets that were total junk. Jag35 is...

Yea, a wireless one will be motorized. If you buy a good one it will be useful for most any application. Even some you may not have thought about yet.

Re: Which follow focus system should would be best for me in this case?

If you want to use it on a gimal you can't use a whip and a mechanical follow focus. You'll need a motorized one.

For a tripod setup you can use one that is mechanical.

Re: Which follow focus system should would be best for me in this case?

They are bad in a many ways. One was mentioned above. The gears tend to not mesh so well with the lens and they are not that mechanically rigid. This leads to all kinds of problems with the gears...

Re: Tried something new. Day to night real estate video

I liked the day/nigh transitions. Those looked really nice. Beyond that I wasn't such a fan of how it was put together. I didn't get the feel for what it would be like to be there. The shots felt...

Re: Which follow focus system should would be best for me in this case?

The one I linked to is what I would consider the low end of what you are looking for. A decent servo itself is going to cost more than you think.

One alternative is to rent a setup on the days...

Re: Which follow focus system should would be best for me in this case?

You should be able to easily find one to do that such as this one - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1367922-REG/tilta_nucleus_m_wireless_follow_focus.html/BI/2855/KBID/3801

Re: New FCC Ruling effect on Lavaliere?

The amount of money needed when these things change isn't trivial. If you have 6 channels of wireless (4 mics and 2 returns) you are talking about $15k in transmitters and receivers. Sure, you can...

Re: Anyone ever had a stream ban?

From a technology standpoint that is a pretty easy thing to accomplish.

Here in the US its not legal to do if you have to emit a signal to do it. If you can build your structure to be radio...

Re: High Frame Rate and End Triggers?

It sounds like you'll have to look elsewhere for a solution since the hardware in the FS700 nor the hardware in the Odyssey will support your needs.

Re: High Frame Rate and End Triggers?

Check out the record times here - https://www.convergent-design.com/kb.html?view=kb&kbartid=15

With a 1TB drive you can record at least 60 minutes @ 240fps compressed as ProRes HQ.

Re: High Frame Rate and End Triggers?

I don't see the problem here. The Odyssey will record 2k @ 240fps continuously until your media runs out. If you want to run for 2 minutes.. No problem. Record for 2 minutes. As long as you have lots...

Re: Synch issue/frame loss using Odyssey 7Q with FS700

I will have to check when I get back in reach of the camera but the FS700 doesnt do true 24fps. It is only 23.98.

Did you have the oddsyee locked to 24 or set for same as source?

Re: Convergent Design - New Firmware Posted

Pardon my frustration.

DNxHR?? Ever or Never? Is it really that hard to do versus writing code to make a monitor a switcher and a video scaler?

Or do you want to just keep pushing that codec...

Re: Letting Other People Use Your Footage?

My response is dependant on who is asking and for what purpose the use is. For personal stuff I am quite generous with sharing footage. For any commercial interest in my work I am much less generous....

Re: DNxHD - When is it coming?

My hope is that it is in a MXF wrapper and not MOV.

Re: How to import axvc to media composer 5

You will need to convert it to DNxHD. MC5 won't handle newer codecs.

Re: DNxHD - When is it coming?

Thanks for the update Dan,

Will you be rewriting the codec for DNxHR since DNxHD is EOL?

Edit - MOV wrapper is fine when you are on the MAC side of the fence. It is NOT fine on the PC side of...

Re: Which Raid

My thoughts,

I recommend a different strategy. RAID is not a backup replacement. Dollar for dollar a few drives with the footage backed up across them is a FAR better strategy.

RAID excels at...

Re: DNxHD - When is it coming?

Dan,

Will you offer DNxHR as well? That will be required to record in 4k. DNxHD doesn't support 4k.

Re: First Greenscreen shoot, FS5

My opinion is the biggest thing you need to be careful with is your DOF. If you are shooting in a small space that suggests that the subject will be close to the camera. That will be OK with a wide...
