Any 5D Mk2 features preferable to Mk3?

I prefer the Live Display button on the Mk2 to the horrible switch on the Mk3 - but apart from that, most features of the Mk3 are vastly improved over the Mk2 (for my work).

I much prefer the...

Re: How 'waterproof' is the 5D Mk iii?

In case anyone's interested, a couple of times, recently, both 5D mk iii and 24-70 f2.8 USM lens have been substantially wetter than I'd normally be comfortable with, but so far there are absolutely...

Re: Canon 5D Mark III Firmware 1.1.3

Thanks for the info, but there's nothing there that interests me, so I'm sticking with 1.1.2.
(If it 'aint broke, don't fix it).

Re: How 'waterproof' is the 5D Mk iii?

Thanks - but I had something more realistic than immersion in swimming pools and rivers in mind. Clearly the camera's not designed for that treatment (let alone the lens).

If anyone's old enough...

How 'waterproof' is the 5D Mk iii?

Presumably, it's 'showerproof' - or is it better than that?
If it got splashed with mud, could I wash it, for instance?

I'd love to know.

Re: EX3 5dmkII Very different looks, but compatible

Thanks so much for this post Les.
I can't believe how good the EX1-R image is with the W/A Adapter.

Re: EX3 5dmkII Very different looks, but compatible

Very interesting. I think with colour correction the two can be brought into line, except that the shadows of the 5D/2 image demonstrate the inherent crushed blacks that the 5D/2 suffers from.

Re: LCD Monitor

Just like you, I considered virtually every option - including the idea of using my iPad 2 but after much research, I opted for the SmallHD DP6.

Love it!
You had that problem, too, Peter?

Those were the "good old days" (Ha-ha)!

Re: SmallHD Dp6 (aka DP-SLR) pre Review

Just had an email from SmallHD to say that my DP6 is awaiting collection by UPS . . .

I'm 63 in March - perhaps I shouldn't be getting so excited about photographic gadgets at my age - but I think...

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

Thanks Jon,
I downloaded the trial and transcoded to ProRes 422 then I alternated clips transcoded this way with clips transcoded by Final Cut Pro X - and to be honest, they looked identical to me -...

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

I'll watch that (I was unaware of those levels).
Are you saying the EX1 'safe' iris levels are different to those I mentioned as well, or just the 5D II?

I will - thanks again, Chris.

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

Thanks again, Chris.
FCP X is awesome - but still a little quirky and there are some important features missing (such as an easy way to reconnect clips if the media goes offline) but it's definitely...

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

Thanks Chris - My mistake - too many late nights and it's Monday, isn't it. Of course, I meant 720.

I'm using FCP X - I just drag the files off the Card, onto my G-Tech HD and then import with...

Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

As I said in my previous post, I'm really impressed with the EOS 5D. I'm really hoping it will be a great asset in our productions.

I've found various ways around the difference in ergonomics...

Well, I fixed it . . .
Not sure how, but I fiddled with the menus and now all's working well again.

Re: EX3 5dmkII Very different looks, but compatible

I love the bear - we don't get those here . . . maybe just as well we don't.

These are our Goldfinches. Pretty, but nowhere near as vivid as yours.

Re: EX3 5dmkII Very different looks, but compatible

Thanks again for your help, Mike,

My firmware is 2.0.9 - as far as I can gather from the Canon (UK) site, this is the latest version.

That's what I'm doing, but nothing happens. I know you have to do it within a few seconds of half pressing the shutter.

Works fine when I do it in the Menu and if I press the multi controller...

Exposure Compensation

I've had the 5D Mk2 for a few days now, and I'm very impressed - especially since I added the EF 24-70 f2.8.

One thing is puzzling me though - with the camera set to an auto mode (Av, Tv or P) I...

The Gorrilapod Focus is great - but don't take the makers' capacity claims too seriously - especially if you're shooting outdoors.

YES the Gorillapod Focus will (just about) carry a Z1 or (as I...
