LCD screen only for me when I shoot weddings. practice and slower f-stop would help. especially for moving image, I would be scared to shoot 1.4. or even 2.0.
but with practice, you could get better.

also if you are shooting on f1.4, depth of field is too shallow, most of your screen is blurred (which will be filled not-so-clear pixels.).
I don't think you are doing anything wrong with codec or...

I simply do not use HDSLR audio in post for actual audio, but rather for syncing up.

Well, SD card is small --> easy to lose, easy to break, little plastic pins get broken time to time.
Also CF card has 60mb/s...
