Re: Quick and Inexpensivew way to block outside noise

Thanks to everyone for offering invaluable advice. I'll have to weigh the pros and cons of each solution and pick what is best for our particular situation.

Re: Quick and Inexpensivew way to block outside noise

Thanks Allan, very good points. We're using a muslin screen, which as a fabric won't bounce sound.

Tell me more about OOPhase. I find it VERY interesting. Is there a tutorial on line that I can...

Re: Quick and Inexpensivew way to block outside noise

Thanks Allan.

It's a ground-floor loft on a busy boulevard where we occasionally need to shoot green screen video. We're not hoping to block the vibrations of the occasional truck, which travel...

Re: Quick and Inexpensivew way to block outside noise

Thanks Buce. Excellent advice. However, we can't permanently caulk the windows shut as 85% of the time we're not shooting (just editing) and we like to open the windows (besides, that solution would...

Quick and Inexpensivew way to block outside noise

We have three large windows we need to cover to muffle (for lack of completely blocking) traffic noise coming from outside. We're not attempting to block vibrations.

Ideally would be a temporary...

Re: Can't smart render HDV in Vegas Pro 9.0 (no "no recompression")

I've now successfully smart-rendered in a live production setting using 60i footage, cuting by at least half the processing time. For some reason Vegas doesn't like progressive HDV footage, but with...

Re: Can't smart render HDV in Vegas Pro 9.0 (no "no recompression")

Well, I've done more extensive tests. I even tried rendering a clip to the default HDV setting, loading that rendered clip, matching project properties, and trying to render it again to the exact...

Re: Can't smart render HDV in Vegas Pro 9.0 (no "no recompression")

Thanks for everyone's replies.

@Laurence : in all three tests, the source footage and render settings are progressive.

@Ian: I only use render settings that match the source media, i.e....

Re: Can't smart render HDV in Vegas Pro 9.0 (no "no recompression")

I wanted to specify that, naturally, in each case I used render settings that match the source footage.

Can't smart render HDV in Vegas Pro 9.0 (no "no recompression")

I'm trying to render raw HDV footage from a Canon XHA1 to an HDV project and avoid recompression.

I've done this successfully with XDCAM footage from an EX1, as well as DV footage (720X480) from...

Re: Carrying an XHA1 for 2+ hours - cramping fingers, aching back...

It's not the weight, it's the position. I've done twelve hours with the camera and accessory bag witout to much trouble. But holding up the camera and shooting for two hours straight is brutal. I...

Carrying an XHA1 for 2+ hours - cramping fingers, aching back...

I recently did a very fun gig (a Woodstock revival) where I spent the entire 2+ hour show right up against the stage while my second cameraman was up on the balcony. While he was seated comfortably...

Re: XLR cable acting as antenna?

Right, sorry Paul. I thought he meant the wireless mic transmitter, but he was referring to the big-ass antenna looming over the treetops.

I suspected it was the long-ish (6-foot) cable acting as...

Re: XLR cable acting as antenna?

Thanks. I make my own cables using Neutrik connectors. Where can I find ring those capacitors and ferrite connectors? What rating?

Yes, I've been looking at those. Thanks.

Re: XLR cable acting as antenna?

It's a Sennheiser receiver. Not the same frequency range as AM. Besides, as I mentioned, the receiver was not powered. No batteries were in it.

Re: XLR cable acting as antenna?

It's a 6-foot cable going from a non-powered wireless receiver (no battery in it) to a video camera's XLR input. It's a balanced cable.

A second 12-inch balanced cable connecting a shotgun mic to...

XLR cable acting as antenna?

I was setting up to shoot a video interview on a mountain top in the middle of Montreal, but received a loud radio signal in my headphones. When I tried to change the frequency on my wireless mic...

Re: FS - Audio Equipment - 2 Wireless Kits - Shotgun Mic

Will you ship the Sennheiser lav set USPS to Canada (zip H4A 3J5) and if so how much?

I would pay through Paypal.

Re: Sennheiser ew100 G1 Diversity Wireless Receiver, Rack Mount - £70

Yep, comes with the right connector at the right polarity. I bought another battery pack from the same seller, but a 9600mA one this time. I can run the receiver (and my portable mixer) all day now....

Re: Sennheiser ew100 G1 Diversity Wireless Receiver, Rack Mount - £70

I've got one of those, is this the model with two outputs (XLR and 1/4")? Great for recording interviews at two different sound levels where the interviewer can't manage to keep the mic at the same...

What band are these? I may actually be interested in a C band unit.

Also, would you ship to Canada?

Re: Canon XF300 / 305 vs Sony EX1r

I want to thank everyone for contributing to this thread. I've been seriously considering the XF305 as an upgrade from the XHA1. 4:2:2 and 50 mbps would allow us to break into the broadcasting market...
