So how is it that I got 14mins 29 secs in one 3.99 GB clip. Is it something to do with subjects colour/s and tonal range/s compressing differently?

I shot a clip the other day and in shut off at 3.99 GB and I got 14mins 29 seconds recording.
I think the actual time will vary a little depending on what subjects you are shooting.

So approx 275...

So are you saying that this "taping method" would at least allow you to use the lens at 1.2, but with manual focus? That would be OK... similar to the twist method, but at least the lens is locked in...

I've been playing around with mine fitted with a 24-105 IS. It is one of the single-mode stabilisers. When panning I find that I need to switch the IS off, otherwise you sometimes get jerky pans.
