Re: New Sony PXW-FS5

Everything on Vimeo / Youtube / TV / Everywhere is 4:2:0. So even if someone shoots 4:4:4, by the time it reaches Vimeo, it will look exactly as anything shot in 4:2:0.

4:2:2 only really affects...

Re: L4ST - Survival - Canon 5d mark III

Sorry guys, had to change the link (previous was accidentally 25fps instead of 24). But now it works.

Thanks for the sound design comment, I actually got some criticism on that so it's nice to...

L4ST - Survival - Canon 5d mark III

Hey guys, finally finished our little L4ST short. A bit inspired by "Last of Us" and lately even "DayZ". Three days of fast paced shooting (mostly evenings). All comments appreciated.

L4ST - "Last...

Re: C100 + Ninja 2 question

I don't get this. I shot a greenscreen fight scene (as a test) with the 5dmarkIII and had no problems with greenscreen (though it was lit very well). So why are people having problems with the AVCHD?...

Re: Camcorder equal to the 5D quality?

Ok, you don't need a vidcam. Just get the 5dmarkIII. A couple of things:

1. Learn to focus manually. Get used to it. Way better results. You can drop down the aperture to get a larger focus area....

Re: Disappointing image quality, especially for chroma keying

Quite badly lit. Green spill everywhere. The camera does not light the scene for you, nor does it tell you how to get a proper greenscreen. Get some distance to the actor and the greenscreen, and...

Re: 5D3: are there any "issues" with this camera?

The problem with Cinestyle is that loses 16 levels (out of 255) because it lifts the blacks up that much. It will also increase noise in the shadows and decrease the level of midtones.

Try the...

Re: IPB vs ALL-I Encoding.

I've been shooting ALL-i. Works great. Looks awesome, especially in 720p (doesn't break up in fast movement at all)

Re: Canon EOS C100

That is not true. The XF100 is compression wise considerably better than the FS700 which uses the AVCHD codec at 24mbps. The FS700 will have blocking and mushing in any moderate movement. The XF100...

Re: New Sony HXR-NX30E Palmcorder with advanced Stabilization

I used the Sony HC1 for a long time and never had a problem with the semi-automatic controls. As long as you can lock exposure, your good.

Besides, what is there to change with small 1/3" cameras...

Re: Lens Recommendations?

The Sigma 20mm f1.8 is an excellent and fast lens. And it also covers full frame. It's not as wide as those 11mm variants but it also doesn't look like a special effect. And then there's the Samyang...

Clay Fight - action scene with 5dmarkIII

We shot this with the Canon 5d mark III. Coming from the 7d, the larger sensor was slightly shocking. We tested the 720p mode, grading and editing. Everything went pretty well.

Clay Fight -...

Re: New NEX camcorder on March 31?

Though..in the defence of the Nex 5n it has considerably less aliasing and moire compared to the 7d that I have. Shot some wide material with an f-stop of 8-11 and it looked pretty good. Way better...

Re: 5D Mk. III vs Nikon D800 - resolution, ISO, rolling shutter and more

I don't get it. For YEARS we've been complaining about aliasing and moire. It has ruined countless shots and caused headaches for thousands. Now Nikon comes out with the D800 which is basically the...

Re: anyone move to FS100 from Canon 5D

Yes it is. The XDcamEX at 35mbps breaks up pretty badly in lots of movements. The IPB implementation in the 5d mark ii/iii is a step better.

Moire and aliasing have nothing to do with compression....

Re: So why should I buy a FS-100?

But it does have rolling shutter. The same amount as the EX1. Which is still quite noticeable.

Re: Still having trouble using CS5 to meet broadcast requirements

If there are effects, those effects will be rendered interlaced when you do that. For examples, fades will have those lines as slightly separate from each other, also motion effects.

Re: For CS 5.5 -- GTX 560ti or GTX570?

How can there be a difference between the cards as Premiere isn't even utilising my GTX 580 at 20%? Usually it uses about 10-15% of it's raw shader power.

But who shoots with the 5d at standard settings? Doesn't everyone dial all the contrast and sharpness settings completely down and use the Neutral profile?

Re: Nikon D4 - for a non DSLR shooter

Re: Please Report any Aliasing Issues to Canon Support...

Alan Roberts who does the testing for BBC suggests the use of heavy Noise Reduction if shooting 720p. That happens before scaling so it gets rid of aliasing by smoothing the picture before scaling...
