TV monitor in the shot

Anyone have experience shooting on a set that includes a TV screen(s)?
More specifically, how to balance the color on set with the colors that the monitor displays.
Are there special monitors/TV...

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

We are still talking about 1920x1080 right? Lots of movies will most likely have been shot at 4K and at that point you aren't really comparing apples to apples.
But you're right... very big...

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

Good point... RAW is an outstanding way to go if you are shooting in an uncontrolled light situation. That has been my position all along.
Does every shot need to be recorded RAW? Probably not....

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

Could happen I suppose, even if it doesn't seem very likely. Again... it's just never happened to me before. That's not to say it has never happened to anyone else before.

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

Yeah, I agree... pretty cool stuff for sure. I can't help feel like I am stepping on some folk's feelings here by saying this is "not quite ready for prime time", but that's not my intention... just...

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

It's cool to do your own thing and test the boundaries of your equipment and all that, but if you make your living with your camera (and editing), time is a pretty important factor. I don't know...

Re: 6D, MarkII or MarkIII with beachtek and Dr-e6?

Here's the one I use, it's a little cheaper than the Canon version and it works perfectly.
Mine stays attached to the camera at all times...

Re: Magi Lantern and RAW workflow doubts

Perhaps if you are planning to do a lot of special effects work/color grading. Or if you are shooting crazy dynamic range shots like sunsets, silouttes or bright windows in the background where you...

Re: 6D, MarkII or MarkIII with beachtek and Dr-e6?

A battery grip is the best way to deal with this... Double the battery life, and the battery tray slides out through the side so you'll never have to take it apart.

Re: 5D Mark III - sharpening in FCP7?

No problem... again, just my opinion. You can probably get decent results with any of them as long as you don't go overboard... it shouldn't take much. And of course, the idea is to use this effect...

Re: 5D Mark III - sharpening in FCP7?

Actually, I meant to use the one in bold, not the other one. The one in bold type won't have to render and it will work fine.

Re: 5D Mark III - sharpening in FCP7?

In FCP, I would use the "Sharpen" filter (the one in bold type) at around 30 or so (+or- 10 to taste...)
It defaults too 100 when you apply the filter and that's way too much...
The other Sharpen...

Re: 5D mk3 new firmware now available!

Yep... just looked it up and your monitor's resolution is 1024x600, so the monitor has to do some scaling in order to display 1920x1080. Like I said, not unusual at all, even for a super duper high...

Re: 5D mk3 new firmware now available!

Check the aspect ratio of your monitor, it most likely isn't a true 16:9. It won't ever be able to fill the full frame of your monitor if it is a different shape. It's not unusual, most on-board...

Re: Aftermarket batteries for the 5D Mark 3?

I have used Pearstone batteries for my 5DM3 and my 60D (same battery) for a few years and never had any issues. I did have one that didn't communicate with the camera correctly and B&H swapped it out...

Re: 5d3 cf or sd card ?

I haven't experienced a freeze during video capture, but just the other day, I was doing a time lapse when about 20 frames into it, I got an error and the camera froze. I had never seen that before...

Re: 5d3 cf or sd card ?

I have used SD cards with 5DM3 on occasion and never had a problem... I usually use CF cards though. However, I do wish CF cards had a copy-protect feature like SD cards do!

Re: Hyper-lapse Experiment (Fun!)

The difference between this and normal timelapse is that the camera moves incrementally for each shot rather than being locked down which of course gives you the camera movement. The trick is to be...

The original was a little heavy on the green.
I balanced it a bit, let the brightest bits of the...
