Dynamic Motion Video SS-302 Shoulder Mount

Greetings to all...I recently purchased a Dynamic Motion Video SS-302 shoulder mount. This is a very simple design. To say the 'mount' is robust would be understatement, you could literally pound 16-penny nails with this rig or use it for an anchor. I haven't had a chance to take it out and play, yet, but I have mounted my HXR-NX5U camera on it, with Atomos Samurai, Comer LED light, batteries, etc. The SS-302 is surprisingly comfortable when you achieve the correct balance point. While simple, you can certainly see a 'thoughtful' design. I believe the rig is made for right-handed shooters, I say that because the foam rubber padding is beveled, for use on the right shoulder, I don't know if DMV makes a left-handed version. The unit comes with a Manfrotto 533 mount and dovetail camera plate. There's a handle attached, which can be used for low-angle, 'walking the dog' shots. The 'handle' is mounted with screws and a liberal amount of epoxy. The epoxy application is a little sloppy, it squeezed out from under the handle, but at least it looks like they used plenty. It comes with a permanently attached counter weight (6 lbs?) and you can purchase additional counter weights, along with additional plates for attaching remote transmitters, and you can buy handles for a steady handhold.

This is not a refined design using sliding rods, adjustable stages, etc., but is a low-cost, workable solution for a shoulder mount for camcorders.

Thanks for playing along,

J.
