Local Television Spot
 

I just thought I would share this recently finished spot with you and possibly pick up some advice if any is available on how to do better in the future.

The format is wmv (sorry).

It was shot on an HVX200 in DV (still waiting on 16GB p2 card) and a Sony PD170 with a fisheye lens adapter. Both cameras were set to anamorphic 16x9 and no light outside of what they had in the house was used. I've felt as though the Panny wasn't going to hold up in low-light situations when compared to the Sony, but this shoot really turned me around on it.

Didn't like the 1st text and you should have mic'd the lady at the end, the sound quality wasn't very good. I liked it except for the end, the pacing was fast and quick edits then you cut to the tracking shot and the pacing kind of slows a bit. Like I said I thought the 1st 2/3 were good, but could use some improvement for the next one you do. When you're using text the text shoould match the thme of the piece, and the 1st one just didn't work for me.

But keep at it you're on the right track.

I was hoping to illustrate the idea that the woman had to quickly get a meal together by starting out at a slower pace, then ramping things up to a frenzied pace, then brining things back down again. Being limited to 30 seconds, I was forced to speed up some of the initial footage which I think detracted from the feel a bit.

I wanted to spend more time on the graphics, but my boss jumped the gun and told the client the spot would be finished before it should have been. All in all I spent 2 hours shooting and 4 hours editing. I usually don't use livetype action fonts in a spot because they hardly ever work out. This is one of those times. I also regret not bringing our jib for the end shot with the bag.

Man I hate that quick turn around...as you very well know pacing in key, in the beginning you have the quick edits and zooms with the soundeffects which is great then it just kind of falls off at the end, but considering the circumstances I think you guys pulled it off.

I just had a quick turnaround on a project myself that went out today, last minute changes and additions, Personally I liked it the 1st time but it's not what I want but what the client wants so, they get their way...

Camera/Editing: Very good. Nice flow.

Text: I would use one easy to read font; stay away from the cursives and other hard to read fonts. Red is also a bad color for a font too. If you're going to keep them, at least add a glow to them or highlight them in some way to make them stick out.

For the logo at the end I would have highlighted it as well because you have blue against a black background, and it may be unreadable on some peoples televisions.

Audio: Audio was good, except towards the end of the commercial you can tell the background music started over again, and rather abruptly too.

I thought you did good. That 30 sec. time limit can make it hard to get an idea out the way you want it but you did good.

I liked it.
Both cameras looked great to me and could not really tell the difference.
How does the Sony PD 170 come up on the a bigger screen as you used it as anamorphic 16x9?
Is the HVX200 native 16.9 cam? I'm sorry i dont know much about this camera.
