First day of practice (lightsaber project)

So our first day of practice was on Monday.
Now, we will be filming the final movie in about 4 weeks.
This is just the beginning of the fight, and the effects are unfinished as you can see.. only one guy has the actual "light" effect.

This was shot only on the DVX100a. I couldn't stand using the SGpro on this.. The focus was really bugging me

One more thing.. this is not where we will be shooting the movie. We're actually still searching for a good place...

Anyways..
Some color correction with magic bullet.

Looks great, how long did it take you to rotoscope that clip?

I remember trying that once... I gave up after the 5th frame!

Tomas Stavik January 8th, 2008 02:46 PM

Haha:P
Well.. I think it took me about 10 - 12 hours to edit video and audio AND then rotocsope alltogether.. the rotocscoping took about 8 of them:P

seems unfair for only one guy to have the light saber. Kinda like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Anyhoo, I remember the days of rotoscoping lightsabers, and I applaud you for keeping it alive. I hated every frame of doing it.

EDIT:

Here's the finished product.

Youtubers: (If you like it it would be nice if you rated and fav'ed it)

Better Quality: (again, watch in VLC cause QuickTime makes the sound lag)

there is no illumination to the sides of their faces where the shadows are when they raise the saber close to their face, use a new copy of the video layer with a mask around that area. brighten it, and add the color of the light saber

Maybe look at learning some theatrical fencing skills?

The sword work looks very sloppy to me. Too much time with body wide open to a stop-hit from the other dude. There is no rule says the opponent will just wait until you get your sword back in line, or turn back to face him. Sword should be your protection as well as your weapon. It should really be between you and possible attack source.

Tomas Stavik January 14th, 2008 08:43 PM

No.. I won't..
This is not supposed to be: "real sword fencing".. this is just entertainment..

you notice so big differences between forum boards.. And it seems to me that this is just "mr. negative" board...

When you give cirtique, please remember to say "something" positive first. But don't lie of course..

No Negativity here that was a great little clip! Don't understand all of the rotoscoping jargen. I would Imagine it has to do with an effect though!!
Thanks for sharing!!
