"Joey and Jerome's. . .Independent Film" at the McAllen Art and Film Festival 10/4

My latest (possibly greatest) short film will sceen on Oct. 4th at the McAllen Art and Film Festival in McAllen Texas, if anyone here cares, lives near there, wants to come, or likes driving vast distances to see a stranger's movie. I'll bump this thread closer to the date.

trailer here: http://joshbass.com/Site/Short_Films...lerv3wmv_1.wmv

It is a LOOSE sequel/follow-up to this:

Saturday, Oct. 4th
5:05pm
Screening Location
Cine El Rey Theater, 311 South 17th Street, downtown McAllen

It appears everything is free admission.

If Joey and Jerome's arthouse flick is half as good as their action movie, I see an Oscar in their future. Very talented gentlemen.

I loved the trailer, can't wait to see the movie! Wish I could make the screening, but it looks like I'll have to watch it online. Do you plan to make it available after the McAllen fest is over, or are there other events it'll be attending?

Josh Bass September 29th, 2008 01:43 PM

Hey, fool! I remember you!

Thanks for liking it. No, if I put it online (the new film is 23 minutes, after all!) it's not going to be for a long while. Apparently, putting stuff online disqualifies it from a lot of film festivals and other distribution options, so I won't do it until I've exhausted the fest circuit, tried a few TV stations that air shorts, and lastly, looked into getting on a shorts compilation DVD. I could mail a copy out, though. . .

The power of cinema is a beautiful thing.
I think we at times forget what a powerful tool it is.

*wipes tear* That was beautiful. Thank you... thank you so much.

Who you callin' a fool, sucka? I remember you, too! I don't spend as much time in the Share Your Work forum as I used to, but when one sees news of a new film from Josh Bass, well ... I just had to stop in and see what was up.

The disqualification is what I meant by "other events it'll be attending"; as little as I know of film festivals, I have heard most of them want premieres, and putting the things online throws a wrench in the works. Can't say I blame them, really, it makes sense to me.

I can only imagine what kind of shenanigans (I mean, you know, deep meaningful shenanigans) these guys get into with twenty-three minutes at their disposal. Break a leg at this weekend's festival, and good luck making the distribution rounds!

"most of them want premieres, and putting the things online throws a wrench in the works."

Not the ones I'm sending to (I aimed for the fests that looked like a miniDV movie with no amazing standout hook and no known actors would be accepted--not as easy as you think; most seem like they're populated by 35mm pictures with 2 million dollar budgets)! Hah! But just to be safe, I'm keeping it offline for now. Like I said, though, I have mailed out copies to people. I'm loose. I'll give it up to anyone. Just not the interwebs.

Hey, Josh; I'm from McAllen and I'll probably be at the film festival with some of the guys I crew with. Hope to see you there and I look forward to seeing your film!

I finally got here (in McAllen). Look for the short nearly bald guy who looks like Paul Simon had a baby with Dustin Hoffman. That's me.

In the future, could you please move your town six hours north? Thanks.

Jason R. Johnston October 4th, 2008 01:08 PM

Uh, yeah. I'd rather be anywhere north of San Antonio at this point in my career. See you at the festival. I'm going to have Solitaire and Tetris on standby for most of it.

I didn't think this warranted starting a new thread, so I'll just do it here:

I have finally made a website devoted to this film. Rather, a page on my own site:

jj2 main

It has some of the same stuff found elsewhere on my site, but also has artwork from the film, cast/crew bios, some of the "music" (if you listen, you'll see why that's in quotes), and the first several minutes of the film online.
