Doubleclutch Music Video

Here is a rough cut of Doubleclutch's "videomercial" that John Hudson and I shot with the DVX... Directed by Kevin Carpenter and edited by Shawn, both of ExFilms.

Just to clarify, we had 2 cameramen on this shoot, one was me and the other was John Hudson. Default Scene file #6, all natural lighting atop a 5 story building in the heart of downtown San Diego.

Dan, that footage looks quite good. I do love the image a DVX produces, especially when in the hands of someone who knows whats up. Can't say I like the music, but it feels like a music video to me, so thats all that matters. I loved the movement in there, any details on the jib/crane used?

Spencer -

We used the CobraCrane II+ available from Promax. (http://www.promax.com)

It was the least expensive jib I could find that had a tilt head. It is extremely easy to set up and mount on a standard tripod. It can reach up to 14 feet high. It has come in really handy, for the price I highly recommend it.

Not bad at all!

I think the lips are out of synch in some places though.

Looks nice! The audio seemed to lack a bit of punch though,
especially in the lead singers voice. But that might have been
the encoding....

great job.. i love the camera angles... really DOES feel like a music video.

only slight gripe is maybe around 00:27 where you do a quick cut from one camera angle to another on the lead singer.. and the first angle had a lot of contrast, second angle has somewhat less. Kinda feels like maybe you just forgot to raise the contrast on the second angle (i.e. it wasn't intentional).. if it was intentional, maybe desaturate the second angle or something else to show more disparity between the two.

Love the video tho.. catchy pop-punk as well.

Thanks in advance for any comments and critiques.

Adam Burtle - I think I know the part you're talking about. The cut is the same angle, but we used two different corners of the building to shoot on (chasing the sunlight). We intentionally made that one cut so that the building behind the lead singer changes with a little swish pan. I thought the effect was kind of cool and I also wanted to see if anyone would notice the changing buildings.

Rob Lohman - You're right that the audio lacks some punch. It could have a little to do with the compression, but probably mostly to do with the low budget recording of the album. For what they paid they got great results...but far from record label quality.

that's a awesome song and a cool video

Rob Lohman March 28th, 2004 04:53 AM

The new video is looking awesome Kevin! Very good work!! Can't
you have some audio wizard take a look at your audio track? It's
just lacking a bit of punch which someone might be able to get
in there.
