"Star Trek: The Beginning" Teaser Trailer

Hey guys. Sometime last year I was excited after watching the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and started to create a trailer for fun along the lines of "What if I was in charge of rebooting Star Trek?" So to that end, using my knowledge of filmmaking and CGI, I set off to create a teaser trailer based off that concept. This includes a differently designed Enterprise, drydock, and shuttlecraft. Specifically, the two shots of the crew men going up the elevator, and on the walkway, were shot on the HV 20 against greenscreen. So without further ado, I present the fan teaser trailer for "Star Trek: The Beginning"...

Also for those interested in how the visual effects were done, I posted a little write up on my blog...

Brilliant, i don't know what else to say, i'm a bit gobsmacked really.
The tutorial is excellent too.
I hope i can do this sort of stuff one day.
Quick question though please, how many hours did the trailer take to make (if you didn't have to fit it round other work) ?
Thanks for sharing.

Paul.

Holy cow! I thought you meant you made a home movie in your backyard for fun!

That was amazing. Great effects work and well thought out. Thanks for posting it. I really want to see the movie now. When do you start principal photography? Hehe.....

That was some excellent cgi work - I take it you do this type of work for a living, if not, I think it's time for a career change!! Was that the Galileo shuttle craft flying up to the Enterprise? Such a fantastic trailer that pays respectable tribute to the look and feel of the original Star Trek (unlike that ridiculous 'Enterprise' show) I'd rather watch your work than theirs - great job!

Take this as a compliment, but when I watched it I thought...

"So he just greenscreened two guys walking and ripped off the rest of the footage from earlier Star Trek movies... big deal."

Then I came back here and read your description.

YOU ACTUALLY MADE *ALL* OF THAT???

Dude...
...it's time to quit your dayjob.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I should have made it clearer...I made all visuals in this trailer, including the CGI. Only two people worked hands on this thing, and that was me for filming/CGI and another guy who edited.

A couple of other folks let us use their CGI models that were built for other projects however.

Nice!

Great timing with the release of the film. Amazing work on the CG, maybe you'll get to work on the next film :)

I love the scotty line from TNG.
