Sarah, Your Ovaries Are Drying Up: The Musical
 

Hey folks,

We made a new music video over the weekend for our upcoming Fringe Festival show. I would appreciate any comments and criticism:

I was really happy with the way things turned out considering everything was shot on a whim in about 1 1/2 hours. The light at that time of day (particularly indoors) was just amazing.

Also, if you like the trailer, we'd appreciate a vote or two. Our troupe could win $500 that would more than offset the cost of our set/costume/props etc.

Haha! Nice, cute little video and song. Yes, the lighting was nice and clean. If you absolutely need any critical comments then I thought at times the female singer was way too close up to the camera, there's slight lens distortion evident. I'm a big believer in making the camera invisible. Otherwise, a nice song and well shot too!

Thanks, Ali. Good feedback. I hadn't even noticed the distortion until you pointed it out. It's so easy to overlook things like that since I'm so close to the project.

It's funny you mention the female singer being too close to the camera in the bedroom shot. That was actually one of my favorite angles. I guess it does kind of overshadow the "Sarah" character putting on makeup in the background.

Oh the blocking is fine where the female singer is up front. Just thought you could have positioned the camera little further back and zoomed in a little to compensate for the lens distortion. From what you have I can tell that the lens is full wide and pretty close to the female singer, which creates the lens distortion and hence calls attention to the camera.

Oh but that's just me being anal about it. The fact still stands that its a fun song and cute video! Perhaps I might steal some of the techniques you've used! Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Ah, I see what you mean now. I absolutely agree. Can't remember if there was room for it or not but it's something to keep in mind for next time.

As they say, the best wide angle lens is two steps backward :)
