Help us with the MTVu Best Film on Campus Contest!
 

VOTE OR DIE! Says P. Diddy, and in terms of the MTVu Best Film on Campus Contest I can't agree more.

Fellow DVinfo'er Devin Doyle and I both have made it into the semi-finals of a national short film contest (only 11 made it), and we need your help to see us to the final round. Via online voting (apparently you can vote as many times as you want so long as it’s not by a voting bot/program) we can move on to be judged by industry giants such as Joel Schumacher and Gus Van Sant! The overall winner gets to go to the Sundance Film Festival, receives a paid MTV Films internship, and most importantly gets a pitch meeting with MTV Films for a feature. This could be the opportunity of a lifetime, but we need your help to achieve it.

The two shorts that made the cut are "Detonate", and Devin's "Fade Away," but because we don't want to split our vote, we are choosing to promote "Detonate" as the one people should vote for mostly. (Because it is more likely to appeal to a general collegiate audience.)

Thanks goes to all of you who went out and voted for "Detonate", especially those who voted a few times -- we've officially won mtvU's Best Film on Campus 2004 contest!!

Here's a rundown of what we get:
-Dec 10th - Interview director Joel Schumacher
-Dec 11th - Attend the red carpet premiere of his new movie "The Phantom of the Opera" at the famous NYC Ziegfeld theater (and afterparty ;) ).

-January 20th - Two of our crew will be sent to attend the Sundance Film Festival as well as receive a pitch meeting there with both MTV Films and CAA (Creative Artists Agency).

-An internship with MTV Films in 2005.

Congrats on the big win guys. Sounds like you guys got a great prize package too and a ton of exposure. What is MtvU? Is it only shown on campuses?

The prizes will definitely offer a great opportunity to get some exposure/experience. We go to college in rural southern Ohio, so we need all the help we can get! This win should also bring good PR to our school, Ohio University-- we hope to blackmail them into dropping some of our pesky bottle-neck Telecommunications requirements for all our troubles ;).

You're right about MtvU, it's the university based MTV. It's a 24 hour cable network similar to MTV, but all centric to college life. Schools have to be MtvU members to get the programming, but thankfully plenty of schools in the US are. It plays in most dining halls and other public lounge areas, and students have access to it in their dorm provided cable just like any other channel.

Because I'm a junior and I live in an apartment (off-campus housing), I don't actually get MtvU, but I believe the national viewer numbers are quite large.

...no need to vote I guess

saw detonate. Nice start but when the guy started to sing, the movie changed for me. I couldn't watch the rest of the movie. Sorry. I don't there is enough action in the movie. It is too static and you can almost predict what is going to happen. The continuity of the scenes all very filmschool like....too static or flowless. YOu know? The same idea I got from the other movie. The movies are a bit static and cold. The acting could be more natural as well. The thing I like most are some camera views on the ground or other interesting spots.
