Awww.

Even a "It was kinda cool" or an "It sucked" would let me know who watched it.

i thought the UFO one was pretty neat - I like the effects - and sometime revealing just enough to peak our interest was nice - though I didnt really understand what you were trying to say. but maybe that was your point.

what film school do you go to?

Bryan Mitchell November 21st, 2004 05:10 PM

UNLV

Las Vegas, Nevada

Could anyone else watch my movies?

Rob Lohman November 25th, 2004 04:59 AM

I thought it was pretty neat, although very dark (as in hard to
see), low contrast (difference between highlight and shadows).

But it was enjoyable to watch, a tad on the long side perhaps
indeed.

I could not open that other movie.

Ooops, it should be

Any mod want to change that for me?

-Thank You

I have updated your original link!

I say its well shot but the story is a little unclear. Also the lack of ample lighting has a drawback on the film but other than that its a job well done. Camera work is quality and music fits the scene nicely.

Rob Lohman November 26th, 2004 07:48 AM

I liked the other movie as well, funny. Seemed like the camera
was not level most of the time though (just slightly off)?

Cody Dulock November 26th, 2004 08:16 PM

i thought the nunnery was funny... its got that kind of humor i like. the ufo one had some cool flash back type sequence at the end... they were both pleasing to the eye. i think if they both had like the actual SFX of putting the cup of coffee down or putting the tape into the machine it would have been a little better.

Mitch Buss November 28th, 2004 10:16 AM

I'm sorry but the UFO movie did absolutely nothing for me. There was no suspense whatsoever. All the shots that you used to build the "suspense" were so cliched. The walking to the door and seeing the doorknob, the alien running behind her, all so overdone that they produce no effect whatsoever. And the music killed any remote suspense whatsoever. Just keep working at it, you'll probably get it.

Well that's like the 10,000th complaint I've gotten about the music. So I'm off to change that.

Let me just start out by saying that I'm also a current UNLV student (small world, eh?). Perhaps we should meet up and network. Maybe I could help you out on your next projects? I need something to do ^_^. I personally haven't shot any little movies or anything yet, besides a high school project or two, but I do read a lot and have become quite knowledgable as you can clearly see in the various boards. But anyway, on to what I think about your movie shorts.

Well, your two videos were pretty interesting. I personally didn't like the UFO, not that it wasn't well made, but it just didn't grab me as a viewer. I liked the miniatures shots, nice job mixing those in and actually keeping perspective. Yes, the music was a little plain. Where was the suspenseful burst when the alien ran behind the girl? Though cliche' I think it would have been a nice touch. I did like the lighting a lot, very nice! =)

The Sticky Nunnery was pretty good. Not my kind of humor, but nice pace in editing to go with the music (were you allowed to use that music though? I'm not sure what the exact process is to get permission or whether it applies to little internet films like that). Great lighting on the cross by the way.

I just have a few questions though. What camera and software did you use? Did you just borrow a camera from the film department? What lighting did you use (I mean, did you use Home Depot lights or actual film/photography lights)? How is Film Production 1? Is it fun?

Well, that's pretty much it. As is the norm for ending quotes, or perhaps cliche' (?) ^_^ (can't use that word enough), "just keep at it."

I own a Canon XL1s. I shot both on that camera.
My lighting kit consists of 8 Home Depot work lights of various wattages.

I use Vegas Video to edit. I use to use Adobe Premiere but It made me angry, so I switched.

Film Production 1 - Professor May is fun. He's a good professor. Watching our shorts in class and getting critique is very helpful.

Check out my other post. The new 16mm film. It's probably my best yet. Check out the re-edit too.

Thanks for watching my movies,
my email is blinddirector@cox.net - lets keep in contact.
I'm still trying to figure out what my next project is, after that I'll be building the crew.
