Tribute to a fallen soldier

This is a short tribute I made for Charles Wilkins, a National Guard soldier killed in Iraq who worked in my Dad’s office in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This was one of those projects that gets unexpectedly sprung on you one afternoon that has to be done by the next morning (in my case in time for the funeral). Many of you have probably had those. But it meant a lot to his family and I’m glad to have done it.

The video spread far beyond what I ever expected. Nearly one hundred DVDs were distributed throughout the FHWA, and the video was even shown to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, who liked it enough to show it at his annual awards ceremony.

You can view the video on my web site. Opinions are always welcome.

Haunting.

I've done more than my share of these, many for personal friends...it is never easy.

Beautiful job, I'm sure he would have been proud.

Thank you. I really have been suprised by how moved people are by it.

Sobering. The actual voice message of Charles Wilkins must have touched family and loved ones .... Your tribute has moved me to introspect my own life.

Don't be suprised - it was incredibly powerful and moving. From a production standpoint there is not a single thing that could have been done differently - great job and given the timeframe, unbelieveable!

I opened this at work at made it thru the first 3 minutes. Barely.

I tried watching it at home and couldn't even make it thru the voice mail.

Maybe it was an emotional day or your tribute is that damn good.

Maybe both.

Regardless, fine work.
