A rock music video with underwater scenes and explosions

I have now finished a music video that I have been working on for almost a month.

I did this video alone, everything from getting amps and equipment, getting permits to shoot to composting the VFX.

The budget was almost nothing. An underwater plastic bag for the camera (wich I will have a lot of use for in the future) and a roll of duct tape.

Time spent on this video:

preproduction: 1 week

band shooting: 5 hours

under water shooting: 2 hours

editing: 15 hours

VFX: ~60 hours.

So here it is
Shot with a Nikon D90 DSLR camera :)

YouTube - Class of Kill'em High - Wailcock (Official music video)

Please let me know what you think:)

Very nice! What system did you do the FX and compositing in?

Erik Andersson September 26th, 2009 05:38 AM

Thank you!

I did the VFX and color grading in after effects CS3.

Computer: A PC with 2 gb ram and 2.13 Ghz dual core.

I suspected some AE but I wasn't sure how much.

If I may ask - were the explosions and smoke trails stock footage, or particle systems? I've been trying to learn the latter but without much success yet, I'm afraid. A particles TD I certainly am *not*.

Almost everything is live action stock footage( the debris flying is CGI).
Some of it is particles (like the meteors in the sky)

that was awesome, good song too!

Eric, great video! Don't suppose you can give me a hint as to how you made your underwater bag? I was thinking of doing the same thing this weekend with my camera just in case it takes an unintended dip in a Welsh gorge!

Hey Simon!
Thanks for your comment!
I didn't make the underwater bag, I bought one.

This is the model I bought:
