"Macaroni & Cheese...& Death!"
Hey kiddies! Just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday!
I was experimenting with the "film look" last night and made a mock "art student" film called "Macaroni & Cheese...& Death!". It's lacking an idea...and substance...but it was edited from some footage I took of my girlfriend making dinner. http://www.ryanbauer.com/files/maccheese.rm I did it to test out my Christmas equiptment...so don't expect a story! Shot with a GL2 edited in VV3/AE5.5 on a PC. Happy shooting! ŽyanbaueŽ |
Haha! Very creative shots. And it looked very 16mm student film-ish. Did you use regular or frame mode on your GL2?
Oh, and I loved the homage to Atari joysticks! |
Critical thoughts:
Are those old-school Atari joystics in one shot? The music is a good choice. The editing is decent, except for where it goes from putting the macaroni in, to the KD being ready to eat. You need to show the transition of time. Unless it's magic KD. ;) Overall, I liked it. |
Thanks! It was mostly a footage test.
I shot in 60i and de-interlaced with the Reelskit plugin for AE. I am an avid promoter of frame mode...but decided to try this method. I am very happy with the full frames it produced. Don't underestimate the power of curves! I ignored my usual "levels" adjustment and opted for the more configurable (and finneky) "curves". I've been using them in Photoshop for years, but was almost afraid to use them in DV. I am pleased overall. |
VERY 16mm.
The scariest part was where your girlfriend used the hot water from the tap... didn't anyone tell you that in apartment buildings they used a lot of lead based solder for the pipes and drinking the hot water gives you an extra dose of the leady goodness?? (G) Enjoyed it. Good film look but maybe next time port out to Quicktime. |
I'd concur on the Quicktime sentiment.
If for no other reason than it seems that Real has turned into spamware/scumware over time. I hate having the player on my computer but sometimes it's a necessity; I wish everyone would dump it so we can just be rid of it. Plus it's expensive as a streaming server with questionable quality... |
Actually...I've been getting extreme "chunking" when I export to QT from VV3. I'm sure it's a configuration problem, though.
I was pressed for time and the 512kbps .rm looked decent enough. Thanks for the replies! ŽyanbaueŽ |
Very cute.

Nice work, Ryan...especially since you just threw it together. I like the series of close-ups to show the progression of the scene...and I also like your use of extreme angles.
Let us know when you crank out something else. P.S. I prefer QT, too! |
Good
stuff for a tossed together short. Nice scene selections, I guess I'll have to remember this whn I start shooting my next short.

I'd love to see it, but I ain't letting the RealPlayer near any of my
machines (both are needed on a daily basis). I just don't trust it anymore after it completely trashed a machine a year ago.... Just my two cents on the matter |
