New Heineken Specs
 

Hey Everyone,

I'm posting links to three new Heineken specs we shot. You may remember the last one I did "Spilling Beer." Hope you enjoy this new batch.

All three were shot in one day on the XL2 with the 14x Manual lens. Funny enough, we shot the day of the huge snowstorm here in NY, but everyone turned up and we got three great specs out of it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your feedback.

alright,

chores - It had great writing, it was the most commercial like out of the three. It was really good.

be alright - this one wasnt nearly as good. although, i love the song, but it didnt fit the video to well.

remote control - this one too was very commercial like. it looked great and the idea was great. the one thing i didnt like was the sound of the refrigerator. it should have been unplugged.

Definitely the 1st and 3rd were the best. I think the 2nd had potential.

Here's an idea for the 2nd one, if you don't mind free ideas. How about a shot of the guy sitting on the couch while his girlfriend is going off at him about all sorts of things (don't even need actual voice audio, can stay with a soundtrack if you prefer). Anyways, the guy is just sitting there, not really caring one bit that she's going off at him. Finally, she walks out of the frame (say to the left) and a moment later she comes back through the frame from left to right with a suitcase in one hand and a case of beer in the other hand.

Switch back to a shot of the guy who suddenly goes from looking carefree to looking desperate. Cut from a shot of him jumping off the couch to go after her. Maybe select a soundtrack with a title like "Baby Come Back To Me" or something like that.

Anyways, just an idea.

Is the connection to the video and the song in "I'll Be Alright" not clear? The chorus of the song is "I'll Be Alright without you" and we're presenting the idea that the guy doesn't really care if his girlfriend leaves him or not because he has his Heineken. So...I don't really get the criticism of the song not fitting the video very well. Sorry for sounding defensive but I'm confused by it.

Also, there aren't a lot of people responding, just wanting to make sure that the links are working. Let me know.

i liked your first one. my only thought was i didn't so much like the shots with the chicks. it's not necessarily the framing, they are just a little bland. more color in the frame would help definitely. shooting against white walls is always tough. i liked your guy shot though.

second one, again bland scenery. i got your concept, and the song fit. there's just something i can't put my finger on that made it not as good as the first and third.

third one was also good. the only thing i think it could use was maybe a small amount of TV flicker. you can do that in post, i did it once on a converse spec.

Thanks for the reply. How did you do the flicker and in what program?

I've been thinking about this all day, and I have no idea how i did it. I edited the spot in Premiere, but I don't remember how. You could either use a flicker filter, which I'm sure exists, or what I would do is take chunks of 15-20 frames or whatever for variation and in those little sections add a slight blue/green tint to it.

Sorry I can't be any more help, it was over a year ago and I edited the thing at like 4 in the morning.

and yeah it sucks more people don't respond.

I'm getting no audio on these... what codec did you use? I think I need to download it.

Like most thought the first and third were the best, the second seems to lack a little something but still good.

I like the whole premise of the commercials, really entertaining.

Hi Barry. These are encoded in MPEG-4. If you have the newest quicktime you should be able to get both audio and video.

Judging from the Super Bowl, I guess the 'Guy as Pavlov's Dog' approach sells beer. However, I would like to see an advertisment with a primise as refreshing as my local IPA.
