X70 crashes my FCP X

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to import XAVC footage (1080/50i) from the X70 but my FCP crashes. I've installed the recommended plugin.

Anyone else have this problem and found a way out?

Thanks.

Re: X70 crashes my FCP X

This has been pretty widely reported - the new codec for the X70 cannot be imported to FCPX (and not to several other of the top NLEs either). Word is that there will be a plugin from Sony for use with the various NLEs in December.

In the meantime, the only solutions I've read about are:

--use the free Sony Catalyst Browse to convert the files to ProRes, which is painfully slow and if you can get it to work it only does one clip at a time

--use the new Sony Catalyst Prepare (but that's $200 and I haven't read yet if it's really any better than Catalyst Browse

--but what several are doing until the plugin comes out is to just shoot in AVCHD

Thanks David. That's what I did today -- shoot on AVCHD :-)
I'll try the other plugins too.

So FCP X handles that by crashing? How about, "Sorry, I don't understand that format. Please try another."

Well, I'm not sure what Shufiyan means by "recommended plugin" - as far as I know there is not a plugin at all for this so I don't know what he has going on. Yes, in every other report of this I've seen FCPX just says the card has "no recognizable files" on it.
