Røde Stereo VideoMic X on rear cold shoe
 

I mocked up an image in Photoshop of how a Røde Stereo VideoMic X would work if mounted on the rear cold shoe of the X70's handle. It looks like when using a windscreen, it will touch (and possibly press) on the handle's zoom rocker.

Of course the microphone can be mounted on the front shoe without issue. But that would make the whole unit quite front-heavy. While I'll use a tripod or monopod for longer sessions, I will need to use handheld on occasion. My thought is that if mounted on the rear shoe, the overall balance would be better.

I suppose I could use a shoe extender so that the windscreen would clear the zoom rocker.

Anyone have this specific combination of gear? If so, is it practical to have the mic on the rear shoe?

Note: I want to use the XLR connections from the mic; thus the need to attach the handle.
