Sound setup in PXW - X70

Greetings everyone!

I have bought Rode NTG-2. And I would like to ask you how to set up it at best. Also, I prefer to use 1 channel with build in internal and another with external (RODE) simultaneously.

Thank you in advance!

with X70 you can't mix built in and external channels.

I agree it's disappointing that we can't mix internal and external, but you can send the signal from one external mike to both left and right channels, using a switch on the top audio selector.

One neat feature is that you can have different levels on each channel, even when using the same mic, say to have a "backup" at a lower level on the other channel in case of overloads. Other cameras I've used don't allow this.

Cool. Doesn't excuse the lack of ability to mix internal/external, though.

And you can set one channel to Manual, the other channel to Auto levelling.

So I can't have a wireless mic on the groom and capture ambient sound off camera mic?

No, but you can have 2 XLR mics, which could be 1 wireless and 1 on-camera.

Ok,
But that's ridiculous it doesn't allow that.

If the wireless mike is XLR and ,for example a Senny, it can go into one channel, the second channel can take the NGT2 for ambient sound. Can't see what the problem is There is an XLR adaptor with my Senny wireless mike, just turn phantom power off for that channel and keep it on for the other mike if it needs it (? the NGT2 has it's own power?)

Here's a possible Macgyver solution??? (Listings on UK eBay)

Professional Mini USB 3.5mm Mic Adapter + Stereo Microphone Fr GoPro Hero 3 3+ 4 | eBay

and

Stereo 3.5mm Socket Mini Jack to 3 Pin Male XLR Converter Adapter Plug VXLR | eBay

The listing for the XLR adapter says that it won't work with a mic, but it should just be case of opening it up & swapping some pins around possibly?

Now you can have ambient sound captured through the second XLR socket with the lapel mic plugged into the first - although it would be far far simpler just to use a shotgun mic!!

I know this is an old thread, but did you have any issues with "noise" from the NTG-2? Used it for years on my EX1R with zero issues. Very loud on my new X70. Sold it and ordered a different brand. Hoping that solves the problems.
