4K over hdmi?

Does the X70 give a 4K signal over hdmi? If yes, 4:2:0 8 bit or 4:2:2 10 bit? I need to record on an external device (Shogun) in 4K. Simultaneous recording in camera is not needed.

4:2:2, 8 bit UHD over HDMI. I'm guessing its HDMI 1.4 so that won't support 10bit. SONY would never. EVER allow 10bit UHD for the X70's price point anyway.

You CAN get 10bit 1080 over SDI.

4:2:2 UHD, really?

Sure. As far as I know, all Sony cameras (consumer and pro) output 4:2:2, 8 bit over HDMI today.

You need to pay for the 4K upgrade to get UHD HDMI out correct?

Re: 4K over hdmi?

You will also want the V3.0 upgrade if you want to view the output on the recording device for UHD. You have to set the output to either LCD/Viewfinder or External. Can't have both.

With the 3.0 upgrade, it appears this situation occurs when you try to record 4K in camera while outputting an external signal. If you leave the camera in standby, the LCD/viewfinder will display.

You can also output an HD or SD external signal while recording in 4K, but as stated above, the LCD\viewfinder will go blank.

This anomaly has forced me to buy an external monitor with an HDMI loop through so I can record 4K in camera while outputting a signal to a streaming encoder such as the Teradek Vidiu.

Re: 4K over hdmi?

Can you be recording 4K internal & send out both HDMI and HD-SDI at the same time (while the screen is black)?

I'm guessing that would be nice if you're sending the feed to a switcher, but then you can also send it to a monitor w/o having to loop through the monitor.

Thanks!

Re: 4K over hdmi?

Has anyone been able to confirm the HDMI and SDI output specs such as 4:2:2, 8 or 10 bit and 4K versus 1080? I'll be using an Atomos Shogun Flame that has HDMI and SDI inputs and was needing to decide whether to use HDMI or SDI when shooting 4K or 1080.

PXW-X70....

SDI = 1080 only with 4:2:2 chroma @ 10bit

HDMI = 1080 or UHD with 4:2:2 chroma @ 8bit

Re: 4K over hdmi?

I don't think that is correct? It only records UHD @ 8bit 4:2:0. I think it only outputs that way over HDMI. Where did you find that info Cliff?

The 4:2:2 UHD HDMI out?

Although I have not seen official Sony press materials, all my information about it comes verbally from many different Sony reps. I have had many Sony people at NAB tell me the HDMI on the X70 and Z150 are both 4:2:2. It's the same situation with the Sony A7S and A7S-II and A7R-II, RX10-II and RX10-III.

I have always been asking the same HDMI question for years about all of them and the answer I always get is 8bit 4:2:2, which is very common for many Sony models today. Even ATOMOS has confirmed this to me on several occasions too.

Do you know this to be wrong? Have you ever seen anything that goes against this?

Re: 4K over hdmi?

Ok - I know on my FS700 that internally it records in 8 bit 4:2:0 HD and it outputs 8bit 4:2:2 over SDI in HD (of course it does raw as well) so what your saying makes sense. I just wish Sony was clearer on this. I'll check the A7SII manual to see if the spell it out
