Jim - What cam do you have? Would you be using it primarily indoors or outside? What is it that you aren’t impressed about?

For shooting outside the one I’d like to get is the Atomos [Ninja or Shogun] Flame because of their bright screen capability. https://www.atomos.com/ Really wanted one in time for summer.

Nevertheless, I’d be interested in what people have to say in response to your enquiry.

Mainly indoors, shooting the ex1r,but am really impressed with the x70.
I'm reading positive comments on the small HD 501/502

I have been using Small HD 6-inch and 4-inch monitors. I use them with Canon XH-A1, XF-300, HV20 and R-300 video cams for the past five years.

Re: external monitors

I've used the Atomos Ninja Assassin with the X70 and it looked really nice (indoors). These are currently EOL so maybe you find one discounted, or the new Ninja Flame is better yet as John suggested. Added benefit of any Atomos unit is extended recording direct to Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD and also works as a playback device.

Thanks
