Sony Z90 vs AX700 4K

Right techy question, trying to work out the differences between:

4K on X70 / Z90 and 4K on AX700

I know that the X70 / Z90 is XAVCL (MXF) at 4:2:0 8 bit and the AX700 is XAVCS (MP4) at 4:2:0 8bit
Is that the only difference - the wrapper, or is their more to it?

Z90 is 10 bit 422 in HD (as is the X70)

But only 1080

4k is 8bit 420 on the x70

No change with 4k. Still 8 bit 420.
The Z90 will have an S-Log option. You may want to check if the AX700 will as well.

I would buy 2 AX700's for 4K work for the same price as one Z90

Between the AX700 / NX80 / Z90 and the X70.....

The X70 uses the first generation Son 1 inch-type sensor. This is the same sensor in the AX100 and original RX10.

The AX700 / NX80 / Z90 us the latest generation of this 1 inch-type sensor. It's and "RS" backlit (BSI) with on-board RAM. This sensor is pretty damn bad-ass for it's size. It's now in the RX10-III/IV and Z150.

In my opinion, this newer sensor is significantly better than the older model and cleaner using high gain.

Also, the AX700 / NX80 / Z90 have picture profiles that support more allot dynamic range then the X70 including 4 HLG modes, rec709 800% and both Slogs. (although SLog-3 is unusable)

If you only need 4k and dont shoot 1080, then get the NX80. If you need 1080 (10bit) and want SDI then get the Z90. (I stopped shooting 1080 altogether about 2 years ago...so I got the NX80)
