Soft pictures in dvcam mode from F355

I have just shot some DVCAM images with my F355 and the pictures look really soft. They looked ok through the view finder on the shoot. What settings are other people using when shooting DVCAM. Would this be different to what you would use in HD mode?

Any help would be a great help.

Cheers

I've been going back and forth on footage from my EX1 and DVX100 today. It's amazing how soft SD looks when you've been looking at good HD for a while! Probably nothing wrong with your camera.

I would agree. I have a 350 and set the detail to +50 in DVCAM mode and it looks and matches my DXC35.

In the menu there's an item "SD Detail" wich let you adjust the detail in 3 steps during AVC capture. It works when downconverting HD-SD, not sure if it also works when the recording is already SD.

I can't see the difference in the image of material shot in HD (HQ) and captured to SD DVCam compared to material shot in DVCam. Thats why we mostly shoot HD even if the edit is SD (exept 4x3 programs ofcourse).

Adding some detailenhancement works well for CRT TV's but it looks ugly on an LCD IMHO.

Eelco.

"SD DETAIL" is conversion detail only - I always leave this in position "hi".

Thanks for your help with the soft pictures I got in DVCAM mode. Just done a new test and it's looking better.

What details settings are people using when shooting HD at 35mbps?

Cheers

Jon

Don't touch them for HD, doesn't need it.
