PDW-700 Hypergamma?
 

In reading through Sony's white paper on Hypergamma, using it seems like a no brainer. Has anyone tried it yet?

I've used Hypergamma, it really does improve the dynamic range. On the Sony cameras there are 4 options, two of which seem to be for use when not really doing much "grading" or correction in post, whilst the others are intended for correction.

If you've got a camera, it would be worth testing which works for you.

The BBC uses the Hypergamma in their "film" settings on the HDW900R.

Hyper Gamma is a must. It really improves the range of the camera. I've made a couple looks based on the F900R and the camera matches very well.

Andy, Hyper Gamma works well indeed. I can really see a difference when shooting outdoors, wide shots, slightly backlit with a big cloudy sky. My only grip with HG is that it tends to wash blacks out and when trying to compensate by raising the black level, it is easy to over crush them.

Could you possibly share the AbelCine settings?

It does require some post work to correct for that effect. However I think the expanded range is worth the work later on.

Hey Andy thanks for sharing. For some reason, I cant see anything in the folders though. Am I supposed to? Or perhaps did they not upload all the way?

The zip files has data in it.. just buried in the Sony file structure. If you put that MSSONY folder on a Memory Stick you will be able to load the files in your camera. You may want to format the Memory stick in the camera before copying. If you want to find the files they are in MSSONY->PRO->CAMERA->HD_CAM. But if you want the camera to load the files they will need to remain in the structure they are in now.

Will putting this on my memory stick do anything to the data I already have on there?

You can store 100 scene files on a memory stick so just choose any slot that has not been used yet. It is pretty obvious to see those when you scan through the memory stick from the PDW-700 file "SCENE STORE" screen. Alternatively, the camera's internal memory aldo has 5 slots to save scene files. These are the first to show up when using "SCENE STORE".

Hey guys,

A DVInfo member pointed out to me that my settings aren't the best for SD recording. Many of my looks have Detail turned off. I think this looks good in HD.. but in SD you need some Detail enhancement. So when shooting SD with settings I would turn detail on and even also turn on SD Detail in the Paint menu.
