I don't know if this will interest anyone here, but I was poking around Sony's site and stumbled on this offer:

$4k seems to me like a heck of a low price for an XDCAM with 2/3" CCDs.

Just so happens that B&H has a used Canon lens for $1400 too:

That's a lot of SD camcorder for the money. The 510 is a nice SD camera.

Its hard to see how SD-camera prices fall at the moment.

A used digibeta is nearly "un-sellable"...

On the other side I am glad HD arrived in europe, finally.

But Digibeta uses that horrid tape stuff.... yuck ;0)

So does the SRW9000.
Having used solid state for a while I know a lot of folks who miss certain aspects of tape!
Actually that's one of the reasons why lots of us who have used XDCam really like it as it is in a lot of ways the best of both worlds.

In the very recent past, I've used tape (Sony Z5), CF- card (Sony S270) and Pro-disk (Sony PDW-F350) and I must admit that I feel most comfortable with the XDCAM-workflow. Just wish more people had a Bluray player so I could deliver my final HD-result on Bluray disk.

There's a lot of HD out there - even our three national stations broadcast in HD now - and a fast growing number of full-HD tv-sets, but very few people with Bluray players. Strange...

Prices are coming down fast
 

My first Sony Blu-ray in 2007 was $450
I bought a second Sony in November for $120
I saw a Blu-ray player (not Sony) today at Wal-Mart for $98.
It won't be long before they are as common as DVD players.

I wish the cost of mass replications would come down. Licensing fees and complicated contracts make it impossible for small producers to release content on Blu-ray -- unless you just want to burn your own discs one at a time.
