XDCAM, Snow Leopard, and Final Cut 7....is it safe yet?
 

We're looking to upgrade our edit systems. Are most of the "new version" kinks worked out to make it worth while to move up from FCP 6 and OS 10.5 up to FCP 7 and OS 10.6? I know FCP 7 has some features that we need.

It seems like from reading the boards that as long as we have XDCAM Transfer 2.11, then that version works with Snow Leopard. Any PDW-F75 issues with Snow Leopard? We do write back to disk via the F75 on a regular basis. Any PDW-U1 issues?

There is no way to write back to the U1 under Snow Leopard. If I would have known this, I would never have installed SL. It has brought me no advantages, only drawbacks. Keep away from it until all your third party software has been updated, that's my advice.

Hi I agree with LUC there are too many issues with Snow Leopard. I would stay away from it,
also Sony still have not fixed there problems with Snow Leopard. I have no choice but to use it as it came pre-installed on our new hardware and Snow Leopard and it will not allow us to revert back to 10.5.

I was wondering about this too (as I'm XDCAM EX3 workflow on 2008 MBP and a 2009 MP) - so thanks for the advice. I'll stick with Leopard 10.5.8 and FCS2 (especially as everything is working so well and so beautifully and stable) and keep my money in the bank a while longer, maybe until a "real upgrade" version of FCS gets released (if it ever does, here's hoping!) that can really use all those cores and RAM that I've paid so much money for.

Snow Leopard has been released more than six months ago.
Okay, it's still less stable then Leopard, and I also want Apple to give a completely bug-free OS (which is impossible) but still: every new Mac, also Mac Pro's, come with it installed. I think even a new Mac Pro shouldn't be able to be downgraded to Leopard.
So Sony should get their XDCAM Transfer Software to work correctly with customers spending so much money for basic features - I didn't know writing back to the U1 wasn't supported in Snow Leopard.
