Embarrassing spot of bother with an SxS card reader

Was transferring content off a borrowed adapter card (not my proper legit SxS media) when this happened.

And after there was some sort of metallic click when the card went in, I realised it was around the wrong way ... and wasn't going to come out. Not at all game to force it. Nope, not good at all.

Has anyone had prior experience with this? I'm thinking I might have to dismantle it, warranty be damned.

Andrew

PS. Next time I will have more than 4 hours sleep before operating one of these units. :-P

Okay. I've got a solution that worked.

Firstly, take out the two screws at the base of the unit and remove one half of the housing. You will see something like the following picture ...

The two metal guide rail things are what the end of the offending card had caught against and thus preventing its removal. The solution was to use a small screwdriver to lift up one of the springy metal things at a time.

As you do this, the card will be freed to be removed from the reader unit. Reassemble and apply the screws back in to their holes. Good as new.

Phew! Well done and bravo for posting an illustrated solution for others - should they ever need it.

Hope I never do that with my Sonnet Expresscard Pro SxS Thunderbolt reader as it looks a bit more difficult to disassemble than the Sony one you've just taken apart!

Once, I did accidentally put an SxS card into my MBP the wrong way round - a few years ago - in the days when they had this useful slot. However, I managed to stop/retract the card with no issues before it had gone in to far or jammed - think I tried to put it in upside down or something.
