Canon HJ17ex7.6B & PMW-400

Hello to everyone , I recently had the chance to test a Canon lens HJ17ex7.6B with my PMW-400 compared to the stock lens that comes with the camera which is known to be pretty good and ALAC compatible, but I was expecting a significantly bigger difference with this canon lens.

In terms of sharpness I found the stock lens to be sharper, but the canon has a different look, more organic and natural which I really like, it looks with a less electronic look.
I am making an assumption here thinking that ALAC makes not only Chromatic and distortion correction to the lens profile but also applying certain sharpness to it, donīt really know these technically just an assumption.

I have never tested a real broadcast lens with this camera, so I don't know if this lack of sharpness (which is subtle but present) is the normal performance of this lens in favor of better optics, mechanics and programming compared to the well matched 400 stock lens. I am asking this because I was hoping to buy this lens from a local tv station that is going out of business and are selling their equipment at a very good price.

greeting

Is your HJ7 specific model an ALAC version?

No it's not ALAC compatible, I think the newer versions which is HJ17ex7.6B IRSE/IASE-A are, mine is the IASE without the “-A”, and the ALAC indicator is turned off in the viewfinder.
