can i upgrade my current 330 XDCAM to record to the new 50 Gig disks if not why not

seems somewhat unlikely.

you'd have to change out the whole transport system which in turn would probably have knock on effects that meant even more extensive changes

Being a 350 owner myself, I asked someone at Sony who would know and they said it's not possible to replace the drive. They are looking at some other possible upgrades such as having the 330/350 be able to use Memory Stick Pro like the F355 uses. They believe this can be done. Whether or not Japan will actually implement this in a firmware update remains to be seen.
