Z7's Compact Flash Recorder and other cams...

Has anyone tried using the Z7's compact flash recorder with other cameras -- particularly the Canon XH-A1 or similar unit? Sony has stated that it will work, but I'm curious if it will work with 24 and 30f.

Thanks,
Paul

Also, does anyone know if the compact flash unit is available to purchase by itself? If so, where?

Before it was released, Sony said it would be available to purchase by itself, but no timeframe was given.

I don't own the Canon, but I've tried it with a HVR-A1U and it worked perfectly.

It should be available separate near the fall, and these batch of sony's along with the new deck m35 are the first that are compatible with canon's f modes. Thanks what I was told by sony last week when I first tried the Z7 and the S270. "Any camera with firewire" was what I was told regarding the compact flash unit but I doubt JVC's 720p will work.

I tried the HVR-MRC1 today with my canon XHA1 and it worked perfectly. At every framerate! I played back the footage in VLC and mpeg streamclip and it was flawless.

Evan, thanks for the news!! Did it seem like an elegant solution or was it a bit cumbersome?

Thanks again!
