DR60 and Windows Vista
 

Hi all,

I just picked up a spiffy new DR60, and it works splendidly with my V1. However, after shooting a bunch of footage over the weekend and plugging in my DR60 to my computer, Windows Vista is telling me that the DR60 must be formatted before I use it.

Did I miss something in the user manual about hooking this thing up to my computer? I'm able to play back the footage on the drive while it's hooked up to my camera, so I know it's all there. Unfortunately, I can't think of a way to get Vista to recognize the drive without formatting it- which will erase the data on the drive. Also, do I risk having the camera not recognize the DR60 by formatting it in Windows?

Sure is quiet out there on the tundra...

I guess a simpler way to word the question is if anyone is currently using a DR60 with Windows Vista, and if you are, did you have this same problem? What did you do to fix it?

OK, I think I've figured out what the problem is. That problem, is Windows Vista "Home Premium". This drive works perfectly fine in Windows XP, and in my Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine, so I'm thinking that it's that particular flavor of Vista.

Oddly enough, I've been noticing a few shortcomings with versions of Vista that aren't Ultimate. Home Basic and Home Premium do not have support for things like striping or RAIDing hard drives together. The disturbing thing is that these more advanced kinds of things aren't mentioned or shown on any of the comparison charts or reviews. It's rather frustrating to run into these problems, but I have my fingers crossed that they will go away once Microsoft gets more of my money when I upgrade to Ultimate.
