Audio buzz using MRC1K on HVR-V1

I have the MRC1K unit attached to the top of my Sony HVR-V1 on a cold shoe. The MRC1K connects to the cam via a short firewire cable supplied with the unit.

Weird thing is, every now and again - and it seems to be random - I hear a high pitched whiny buzz when I press record, which then decreases in volume over about two seconds until it's no longer audible. The noise is audible in the headphones and does record onto the card as well.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar or have any suggestions how to get rid of it? I'm fairly sure I've heard the buzz faintly in the background while recording sometimes too, a bit like you sometimes hear feedback just beginning to twinge before it gets a grip.

Presumably the Z5s and Z7s don't have this problem or there'd have been a storm of protest. So perhaps therefore the firewire cable is acting as some kind of antenna when record is pressed and the bits start zapping along it? (I'm no electronics engineer!)

I've never had the problem when the MRC1K wasn't connected or switched on.

Regards
Dave

sad news

My V1U has had the same problem since it was new. I sent it back to sony for repair. They said there was nothing wrong with it. Suggested I use a better mic. I have a sony ecm-44 but it seems that is not good enough.
I very seldom hear the noise if I use a portable mixer. Occasionally, but not consistenly.

This noise occurs with or without a firewire device hooked up.
Best of Luck, jm
