Can not get the CF recorder to work

Pardon my ignorance and I have looked all over the forum for this answer but have not found it so I am quite sure I am not doing something simple.
I have the S270 and just now tried shooting on CF card. Usually shoot in tape HDV. But I just can not get it to record without manually hitting the record button on the card recorder.
Read both manuals on the camera and card recorder and am at a loss how to get it to record when I hit the record button on the camera.
Could someone give me an order/settings of what to do to get the CF recorder to roll when I hit the record on the camera?
Thanks

On the MRC1k: Press the CAM LINK button on the front and look for the icon (Page 4-5), then MENU > SETTING > CAMLINK SEL > SYNCHRO (p.7-8).

On the Cam: MENU > IN/OUT REC > EXT REC CTRL > SYNCHRONOUS (p. 84).

Well I followed the directions here and still had nothing on the card unless I hit the record button on the MRC1K....so obviously there is some human error here.

Doubled checked my setting but nothing on the card...

Puzzling. If you've got both units set exactly as specified above, then I'm at a loss... I could be missing something, though. Perhaps others will have ideas.

If the files are fine when you use the button on the MRC to record, then we know it's not a FW problem, either ports or cable...
