Tele-macro

Have any HC1 users experimented with the tele-macro feature yet?

I was very excited when I read some pundit speculating about this feature as being a at-long-last solution to the video depth-of-field problem.

I'm going to have this cam in a few days now, and would be excited even if the tele-macro feature were not part of the deal, but the thought of a shallow depth of field without the "crank open the aperture and haul out the lights" routine is what has me most excited of all.

My second question is--having Googled "tele-macro" extensively--if this technology has been around for a while (and so far as I can tell, it has), why haven't videographers cobbled some aftermarket tele-macro solution prior to the HC1? If they have, it certainly doesn't seem to be in wide use.

I think the telemacro thingy is for real closeups like a bee on a flower in the 1 metre range. I guess you could build something to get the shallow DOF. I want to have shallow DOF but I think it requires to build some add on lenses. Some said that cameras with smaller lenses wouldn't work good for that kind of project.

Just tested the telemacro. It does real closeups on objects and stuff around gets blurry. But it zooms in on the chosen object automatically so it doesn't give a shallow DOF effect.

That's disappointing. No way around this?

I don't think so. I guess that something similar to those 35 mm adapter on the net can be built. I am too much of a newbie to understand how it works at the moment. But I am gonna look into it and try to understand.

Please do. I have tried and I don't know where to go to try and understand.
