A1 - How long?

When will the A1 really be available? we were told mid Sept. but it seems to have gone very quite for such a major release, when I called my pro dealer and another on Saturday I was told to call back LATER in the month and they SHOULD have a date!
Any news out there?
Cheers
Paul

They have it up for sale in a webshop here in Sweden.
It seems to be out here in PAL land? I can't recall this page ever
having products they can ship right away.. So my guess it's out
in some places around the world.

I'd say in a week or two. Some stores like thecamerabox.com claim they have it in stock, but I doubt it. The only store that has the HVR-A1U listed that I trust is B&H and they are on hold at the moment.

Paul and Sean,

Can you let us know what you think of it! I am keen to buy one to work as a backup to my Z1, but I want to see a few opinions on it first from people that are using it it. The reviews have been good - but words from fellow users are gold when considering such a purchase.

Stu & Graeme

Hi. I'm new to this posting lark, so there may be too much info below!

I got told the A1E would be released in the UK shortly after IBC finished in Amsterdam (It's some big annual electronics/media event apparently).

Anyway, I pre-ordered through a company in Manchester a couple of weeks ago, and they placed an order for me. In total I think she ordered five cameras. I was advised to do it this way as the demand was going to be so high that they'd all be snapped up as soon as they arrived.

Also traditionally, the first batch is slightly cheaper & Sony puts the price up a bit in October - this is what I've been told.

My camera was £1756.63 (£1495+£261.63VAT) & I got it from

Wendy's Broadcast Services
Unit 2
Littlers Point
Second Avenue
Trafford Park
Manchester
M17 1LT
tel. 0161 872 6800

The head honcho there is Wendy Appleton. I can assure you they're a professional outfit. I work at Granada TV in Manchester, and a lot of our cameramen get their equipment there. The camera is covered by Sony's silver support agreement, which broadly speaking means if anything goes wrong you're covered for repairs for two years, and if it takes longer than 7 days to fix, they loan you a replacement.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

PS Hopefully I'll get time to take the camera out today and shoot some material. Will let you know what I think later on.

Cheers
