HC1 and Adobe PRemiere
 

This is pretty much a repeat of a discussion started in November but I wanted to make sure I understood. I currently have Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 Adobe claims poor capture quality using the HC1. From what I gathered from the previous discussion, if I want to retain the HD quality while capturing I should use Cineform's Aspect HD. Am I understanding this correctly?

Two side questions:

1. Is Aspect HD used for capturing with Premiere for editing?

2. With the price of Aspect HD around $500 would I be better off getting Vegas 6+DVD (after rebate prices seem to be around $400)?

1. I use it that way but it might be possible to capture directly from Premiere.

2. You would be cheaper off. Better is a subjective thing. A Vegas-user would say yes but a Premiere user no. So it's up to what features you think are best. I love Premiere for being able to have sequences in sequences. Vegas couldn't do that (though it can have projects within projects). So you need to find out what you think is important.

The beauty of this software is that it splits the footage by scene into separate m2t clips. I no longer capture with anything else.

I use Vegas, and from there I run Gearshift to generate proxies.

If you are planning on working with the Cinneform Intermediate, capturing with Cineform's HDLink is the way to go.

Aspect HD does allow you to directly capture within the Premiere Pro capture interface. CineForm's HDLink is an optional capture method if you wish to capture outside of Premiere (also used with Vegas and Connect HD.) Aspect HD at $499 does offer a huge increase in editing performance. Thanks for the tips. Since I already am pretty familiar with Premiere I'll stick with it and do the trial on Ascpec HD to get a feel for it. Then go from there. I appreciate the feedback.

Just to add: Premiere's 'scene detect' splitting function works fine in conjunction with AspectHD.
